‘Introduction to Longlining’ with Katja Elk:
2-part clinic introducing longlining and how it ties in with the classical principles of dressage, Santa Ynez, CA.
Part 1: ‘Introduction to Longlining’ -- Saturday, March 6, 2010
• See a horse demonstration and lecture about human-to-horse and horse-to-human body language as a prerequisite to working with your horse on the long-lines.
• Enjoy some hands-on work with your horse in the round pen. Learn how to guide your horse’s speed and direction as means to establishing trust-based leadership principles.
• Communicate with your horse in your horse’s language. Experience a unique bonding experience that will deepen the relationship between you and your horse tremendously.
• Work your horse at liberty, with halter, then saddle and long-lines. Great experience for horse of all ages, backgrounds and breeds.
Part 2: ‘Longlining & Dressage: Connecting the Dots’ -- Saturday, April 10
• Enjoy a horse demonstration and lecture about the connection of advanced longlining and working horses under saddle along the classical principles of dressage.
• Hands-on work will lead participants to working their horses in bridle, saddle and longlines.
• Learn how the aid system on the longlines corresponds to the rider’s aid system used for communication under saddle.
• Find out how to introduce, improve and maintain your horse’s rhythm, suppleness, contact and balance.
• Add longlining to your training schedule to support your horse’s impulsion, straightness and collected work.
